This map shows the volume of terrorist and rebel audio/video material being released by country for 2013 and 2012. The volume of releases in a country is generally indicative of the overall level of terrorist/rebel activity in that country. Increases in the number of releases often serves as a valid indicator of an increased threat of attacks in that country. Syria is currently the volume leader and far outpaces the level of activity in any other country.
Each audio/video release is assigned a primary country based on the following criteria in order of priority:
1 - The country the video is specifically addressed to.
2 - The country the video is filmed in.
3 - The country the group which shot the video is based in.
Four classes of volume are shown with the darker reds representing higher volumes.
1 - (1-5 releases, lightest red)
2 - (6-10 releases)
3 - (11-20 releases)
4 - (21+ releases, darkest red)
